DVOKUT-ECRO prepared an analysis of natural and semi-natural habitat types within the Savica Protected Landscape, together with a monitoring programme for their condition and spatial extent. The Savica Protected Landscape comprises a complex of wetland habitats on the left bank of the Sava River, within the administrative area of the City of Zagreb, including a system of interconnected lakes and valuable aquatic, wetland, woodland and grassland habitats.
The assignment included a review and analysis of available data, preparation of a field survey plan, field investigations during both the vegetation and non-vegetation seasons, flora inventory, vegetation analysis, habitat mapping, and assessment of habitat value, conservation status and sensitivity. A specific part of the work included the application of modern remote sensing methods, including UAV surveys, preparation of orthophoto imagery, LiDAR surveying, land cover analysis, analysis of dead wood remains and assessment of habitat connectivity.
The project resulted in a technical basis providing detailed insight into the condition and spatial distribution of habitats within the Savica Protected Landscape, together with proposals for further activities, management measures and a monitoring programme. The prepared documentation contributes to more effective conservation of the natural values of this protected area and supports its long-term sustainable management.
